Goodridge brake lines

Plan-

what I want to do

The first run that I did on the street after installing my new exhaust, my Supra accelerated considerably faster than I was used to.  I soon realized that this faster acceleration needed to be balanced with quicker stopping.  After all 60 to 0 is important too.  I knew that I needed to replace my old dried out lines.

Project-

what I did

The Goodridge lines are a direct replacement for the stock ones and are easily installed.  I put the car entirely in the air and pulled all four wheels.  After that it was an easy one to one swap.  I decided to upgrade the brake fluid and the bleeders as well.

Difficulty-

things that made it hard

1- Since the front Goodridge lines do not have the guide the stock ones do at the lower end, be sure to hold the new lines pointing straight forward when tightening.

2- The fittings are a softer metal than stock and may be more prone to cross threading or stripping so be extra careful.

Top

Problems-

with the product/install or that came up later

1- The back 2 lines do not have threads all the way to the end of the fitting that joins the metal line on the car.  I think I only got about three full threads in before it tightened up.

Payoff-

what I felt the "bang for the buck" was

Since I was replacing some old, cracked, weak lines, the payoff was probably big.  I say probably because it was hard to tell since I did this along with new fluid.

Stock-

specs/info on the stock item

I'm sure that new stock lines are very adequate.  As they are rubber, however, they cannot help but expand a little which delays the braking time and increases the pedal pressure required to squeeze the calipers.  Old lines are even worse.  Mine were very old.

Upgrade-

benefits of the new item

The braiding assures that the line will not expand.  Also, the stock line has a joint where it clamps to the shock and the braided line continues unbroken through a swivel fitting.  This removes one possible source of leakage, a good thing.
