Rod Knock.

Plan.

In March of 2002 I developed a rod knock coming home from school one night.  At first it sounded like I had a piece of string stuck on my driveshaft or something- a slight ticking that sped up with the engine rpm's.  I got out and under the hood, but couldn't hear anything.  Then next morning, I started the car and it was much louder.  While leaving it running to try and pinpoint the source the ticking turned into the definite sound of a rod knock.  It seems to be either the number 1 or 2 cylinder.  I guess after 16 years, 188,000 miles, two blown head gaskets, a new head, many mods for more power and a hard driver for 10 years, the engine is giving up the ghost.  The first step that I took was to get another vehicle to drive daily that would also be capable of towing the Supra and transport any parts (like the engine) easily.  I was looking for a beater Toyota pickup or 4Runner.  I bought a 1990 4Runner for $3000.  This will be the third time that I have had the engine apart, so I am going to go all out.  I plan to have the block bored and honed for .030 over JE forged pistons, have the rods race prepped or buy aftermarket ones, get the crank turned, port and polish the head and have the manifolds matched, do 3 angle valve job with the new springs and seals and keepers, I might get oversized valves as well.  I also will be getting a new wiring harness and oil pump, have the engine milled for a metal head gasket, and get the entire rotating assembly balanced.  Of course I am talking some serious money here, so this will take some time to put together.

4Runner...

The Project.

As of now, I have not done anything except let the car sit to prevent any further damage.  I will post pictures of Other stuff I needed as they accumulate.  Check out my the full wish list.
