Cracked Turbo.

Plan.

More photos below.

While reassembling my Supra engine from a loose manifold gasket, I noticed a slight crack in the turbo's waste gate.  I was able to buy a good used  turbo from another SOGI member.  I know that the cracked turbo works fine, it was recently rebuilt during the blown head gasket repair and I will keep it just in case the new turbo dies or for future modifications.  It would be nice to send my old one off to Turbonetics or something.

Loose exhaust manifold... | Blown head gasket...

The Project.

Everything went off without a hitch.  Of course it could be that I just had this out 2 months ago and the bolts are not rusted/baked in place.  Again, I removed the turbo elbow from the turbo and tied it and the exhaust back to the firewall.  With the accordion and water hoses off, the oil lines loose, and the heat shield removed, I took off the old turbo.  I sealed the old one up real good using some heavy plastic and duct tape.  The new turbo went in and I was off.

Blown head gasket...

Difficulty.

1- None for me.  But on another car this could have been hard due to old bolts.  The first time I had to remove my turbo, I actually had to crack a bolt to get it off.  I figured the average person will have to deal with this problem and that is why I gave it a 5.

The Problems.

None so far, the new turbo has worked flawlessly.

The Payoff.

I noticed a slight increase in the boost pressure and strength of the engine.  Of course after spending $200.00, I 'm sure I may just be convincing myself there is some return.  Piece of mind is probably the only real gain from this repair.

There a small crack in the waste gate seat.
